Catholic Relief Services (CRS) began working in Nigeria in the 1960s and was active during the 1967 civil war in the area of emergency response. After the war, the Nigerian government asked CRS and other international development agencies to leave the country. Thirty years later, with the return of democracy after years of military rule, CRS returned to Nigeria in 2000 at the invitation of the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria. In partnership with the Catholic Church, other faith-based and community-based organizations, the private sector, local and international NGOs, and government institutions, CRS implements a range of complex programs with support from a variety of donors and private funds.
CRS has supported us so much with technical and structural capacity building. They provided training for us and assisted us in filling in the discovered gaps after many institutional capacity assessments that were carried out on our organization.
Beyond capacity building, CRS also funded one of our projects from year 2020 to year 2021. The project was tagged, “Faith-Based Action for Scaling up Testing and Treatment for the Epidemic Response (FASTER),” With support from the US CDC through the U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief. They also provided technical support to us during the implementation of 4GATES OVC Project.
